Drama

All students study Drama in Years 7, 8 and 9. Students then have the option at the end of Year 9 to continue to study Drama at GCSE. With the introduction of a new GCSE Drama Specification, which includes a written paper, the Drama curriculum has been further developed in breadth and depth in order to best prepare students for study at Key Stage 4.

In addition, there will be opportunities for students to participate in Drama clubs, house competitions, work with visiting companies and take part in a production as either a cast member or as technical crew. These will evolve alongside the developing curriculum.

Through Years 7-9 students study nine units of Drama covering a wide range of themes, texts and genres of theatre, several of the topics complementing their learning in PSHE. Students develop individual and group work, helping to direct and evaluate each other, reflecting on how to improve their creations alongside the devising and performing. Students play creatively with ideas for plot, structure, characters and staging, and consider audience and purpose. They are assessed throughout each year upon the following: characterisation; style, technique and genre. performing a role; use of stage and proxemics, group skills and evaluation.

We want to introduce young people to the world of theatre and equip them to be confident for life, teach them empathy and to be understanding of others.
