PE

PE at Framingham Earl aims to develop a healthy life-long love of physical activity. All students study PE in Years 7 to 11. At the end of Year 9 students have the option to continue to study GCSE PE. There are opportunities for students across all Year groups to take part in extra-curricular activities in a wide range of different sports, at lunch time and after school.

Many students also volunteer in leadership activities such as assisting at sports clubs or primary school sports festivals. Through Years 7 to 9 students participate in fitness, aesthetic activities, invasion games, striking and fielding activities and athletics. These activities focus on developing sport specific skills and tactical and rules awareness. They will also focus on improving their health, fitness, and well-being through application of skills. Practical performance, knowledge and character underpin all PE lessons. Students will gain an understanding of different sports, their origins, including British and worldwide sporting role models.

Assessment in PE will focus on a “Head, Heart and Hands” approach. Students will be assessed in one of these areas at the end of each unit of work. The assessment will be based on skills and application of these during competition or a performance. “Head” will focus on knowledge and understanding, decision making and analytical skills, “Heart” will focus on communication, effort and attitude and “Hands” will focus on physical ability, skill development and fitness.
