History

History at Framingham Earl aims to develop young people’s knowledge of the past and as such the world around them. All students study History in Years 7, 8 and 9. At the end of Year 9 the students have the option to continue to study History GCSE. Through Years 7 to 9 students study units of History covering a wide variety of topics and themes. The units follow topics from the Romans to the present day and include local, national, and global history. Every unit is based around an enquiry question which drives the study forwards.

These enquiries have been deliberately chosen to stimulate young minds and achieve our curriculum aims to create young citizens, scholars, and historians. The study of History at Framingham Earl is about increasing our knowledge of the past, looking at evidence critically, weighing up historical arguments and extended writing. Each enquiry is assessed with a final piece of work, often an essay. The writing of this is a key part of the teaching process over the course and is focused on continually improving their extended writing skills.
